Can Alcohol Cause Acne or Zits

Alcohol is attributed to skin problems and migraines as well as upsetting the hormone balances in the body.
The question is a complicated one in terms of things that are fundamentally bad for you “If taken in high dose will alcohol have a detrimental effect on your skin? Drinking large amounts of alcohol will affect the immune system that helps to keep toxins and bacteria at bay.

Alcohol affects the liver which is vital for cleansing the blood and detoxifying the body. The blood sugar levels the body can fluctuate the maintenance and levelling of hormone levels is therefore vital and any product or drink that affects the proper functioning and suppress the regulation of the liver is bad and in turn is bad for the bodily organs the largest of which is the skin. Alcohol causes dehydration and detoxifying of the body is much more difficult.

The hydration process is lessened when you drink alcohol making the flushing of the skin more difficult. Alcohol also causes cravings for sugary drinks foods and fried or highly processed foods which will higher insulin levels. Alcohol is used in many skin products for topical application because it is an astringent that blocks pores because it causes shrinkage. Alcohol causes you to have a false sleeping pattern when you are constantly having bouts of waking or constant trips to the toilet or the fridge for drinks to rehydrate your self.

Alcohol gives you a false sence of sleep as you may think you are sleepy but it is more difficult to get a deep sleep. The average adult will need a total of 7 to 8 hours sleep to properly function. Lack of sleep affects the mind and body in terms of social functioning and are associated impaired memory loss depression associated disorders breathing and heart disorders. Brain activity is assessed in two different types of sleep in terms of brain activity (SWS) known as slow waves of sleep including (REM) or rapid eye movement where the person remains asleep while the eyes move rapidly.

The brain messages sent via serotonin and REM regulation in the form of norepinephrine are significantly affected by high levels of alcohol consumption or alcohol consumption regularly or (binge drinking). Skin aging prematurely is one of the affects of alcohol that is important to young women especially as looking and feeling young is all part of adolence and the need to be youthful and be part of the crowd. Sugary and high yeast alcoholic drinks can also pile on the pounds which is never flattering this in turn will affect the skin.

The appearance of the skin may become dry itchy blood vessels may appear with reddening of the face and neck. Certain skin problems like adult Rosacea is made wore by consuming alcohol especially red wine. Rosacea is commonly associated with redness of the skin enlarged capillaries with pimply bumps and black heads. Essential vitamins like vitamin A are depleted or diminished by alcohol consumption regularly.

Alcohol related illnesses should not be underestimated and have a detrimental effect on the whole body as well as the skin ultimately. Liver inflammation, memory loss, confusion, blackouts and stomach upset along with depletion of essential vitamins and minerals because of poor diet all affect the skin. There are physiological affects to alcohol consumption like aggression, anxiety, depression, memory loss poor co-ordination anti- social behaviour as well as loss of appetite loss of sexual appetite and arousal not to mention infertility problems in both men and women. .

The worst alcoholic drinks that affect acne

High sugar and alcohol drinks that require fizzy mixers will increase alcohol affects and cause fluctuation of the insulin levels in the body. Mixing a low calorie wine with soda spritzer or a vodka with soda and lemon or lime will be far less detrimental than consuming shots or high sugar alcoholic drinks. A low alcohol low calorie beer or cider with intervals of drinking soda water or diet drinks will ensure you have a good night out without affecting your self internally or affecting your sleep and in turn damaging your overall health and the largest organ in the body namely the SKIN.

Light beers will have fewer calories less yeast and lower levels of carbohydrates which affect the insulin level in the body and affect hormone levels resulting in the over secretion of the sebaceous glands. Non alcoholic drinks or “Mocktails” as they are sometimes known are less likely to cause dehydration fewer calories and less side affects. Juice mixers of orange cranberry lemonade diet soda lemon lime or sugar free syrups are better to mix with wine or low calorie white spirits.

Adding citrus fruit juices and fruit pieces to your drink will benefit you and help to dilute alcohol drinks. Eating a healthy diet and not over dong it by drinking on an empty stomach will mean the affects of alcohol are limited. Adding citrus fruits like pineapple grapefruit apple black berries lemon lime etc, will act as an antioxidant cocktail as well as orange or carrot juices with beta-carotene. Drinking high sugar or high alcohol drinks are the equivalent to eating several bars of chocolate or consuming take away foods high in salt and fat

An initial glance in the mirror after drinking will allow you to see first hand the visual affects of alcohol and lack of sleep. Over all body affects of alcohol include the bloating affect of the face and tummy including cellulite. The livers function is to flush out toxins in the body and this is effectively done 90% of the time the other 10% is flushed out of the body through sweat urine and through the breath. Skin cleansing is often over looked when alcohol is consumed and the pores of the skin become blocked.

Consuming carbohydrates along with drinking plenty of water can help with hunger pains and flush out toxins and replenish the skin. Alcohol lowers the sugar levels in the body and consuming fruit juices with your dinks or afterward. Potassium levels need to be levelled healthy broths and soups with plenty of green veg and vitamin B vegetables minerals and vitamins. Alcohol low in carbs or not is empty calories basically. All alcohol drinks contain some yeast but those distilled with beer ale or wine is high in yeast than those derived from lower levels of yeast like vodka, rum and gin.

This does not mean you can drink any amount of white spirit alcohol drinks. To avoid yeast symptoms you must cut out alcohol from your diet. Candida is yeast that is naturally found in the flora of the skin. Over growth of yeast can cause problems. Yeast is present in the mouth, rectum vagina. When the immune system is lowered because of illness or alcohol abuse the Candida condition called thrush can cause problems. Chronic Candida can cause skin conditions, fatigue, conjunctive symptoms and stomach problems.

Foods to avoid are sugary foods as Candida feeds on sugar and alcohol and fruit juice or fizzy alcohol drinks. Eat low sugar fruits like strawberries apples grapefruits lemon and lime. White processed foods sugary foods and fructose and sugar substitute foods should be avoided, instead eat high fibre foods steamed vegetables like broccoli, cabbage, sprouts celery asparagus onions, garlic ginger turnips and curly kale. High protein foods like fish and chicken nuts and seeds as well as complex carbohydrates with a low glycemic index and will illuminate Candida quickly.

No alcohol drink will benefit you skin but a low calorie low yeast alcohol drink with berry fruit juices or lemon and lime mixer will lower the calories carbohydrates and yeast levels consumed over all. The thing is take all things in moderation eat a health low gylcemic diet rich in vitamins minerals and nutrients exercise regularly and drink plenty of water get 7 to 8 hours sleep and choose a healthy social lifestyle that wont be detrimental to you long term healthy . A little indulgence in what you like in terms of diet or alcohol won’t be detrimental if done in moderation.
