Acne around the Lips
This is a common place to get pimples and blackheads, if you think about it blackheads are simply blocked pores that have filled with sebum and are unable to secrete due to the follicle at the top being blocked with dead skin cells. Pimples are these blocked pores being infected with bacteria so the pore becomes inflamed and red and can easily be spread around the area due to rubbing the face and spreading bacteria from one place to the next.
The human mouth carries millions of bacteria so if you have open pores then the bacteria will enter and become a pimple very easily. Using lip gloss can cause the pores around our lips to become blocked and just the fact of eating, drinking and rubbing your mouth makes this a high risk area for pimples and blackheads. Now that we know why this happens we can examine things to do to prevent any major breakouts.
The urge to squeeze out blackheads and pimples can be very tempting especially if the pimple is sore and inflamed. You must resist this urge as it will only make the spot look much worse and it can spread the bacteria causing more pimples. The trick is to cleanse the area gently with a pH balanced cleanser and tepid water you do not want to dry the area out so be as mild as possible. Benzoyl peroxide which is sold over the counter, a 2% maximum concentration is sufficient. Benzoyl peroxide is a strong treatment that can dry out the lips which will make you very uncomfortable and irritated apply a moisturizer afterwards to help with this. Moisturizers must be non comedogenic which means that they do not contain ingredients that will block pores making the situation worse.
You can also chose special acne formulated moisturizers as these will not contain oil that will block up the pores. You can then apply a medicated spot concealer to the pimple to disguise the mass. Medicated concealers are specially formulated for acne and are non comedogenic and also have anti bacterial ingredients. Avoid using lip gloss or any other lip products except the recommended moisturizers above, apply when necessary as soon as your lips feel dry but do not apply over any concealers or makeup as this will push the makeup into the pores. Apply before or continually if you have not applied make up to the area.
If you follow these guidelines morning and evening keeping the area well cleansed and moisturized with the specified acne lotion then the problem should clear up in less then a week. If you see no improvement and the area is getting worse make sure you are using the correct treatments and that they are specified for acne, otherwise you may need to speak to a dermatologist and need specialist treatments that are stronger and require a prescription.
